Description
The Specialization in Social Justice and Equity Studies is open to Honours students in Sociology and provides a pathway through the program that focuses on understanding the various intersecting dimensions of social inequalities and social oppressions and their formation and impact in societies, cultures, organizations, and workplaces. Topics covered include gender, sexuality, ethnicity, embodiment, workplace equity, and social inequalities.
Students who have fulfilled the requirements for a single- or joint-major Honours degree in Sociology may graduate with a Specialization in Social Justice and Equity Studies if they have successfully completed the following 4.0 credits:
2.5 SOCI credits consisting of SOCI 2220H, 2430H, 3250H, 3440H, and 3661H
1.5 credits from:
SOCI 2340H, 2500H, 2630H, 3115H (3120H), 3121H, 3150H, 3320H 3400H, 3410H, 3420H, 3460H, 3672H, 3822H, 3860H, 3881H, 3962H, 3966H, 4111H, 4230H, 4252H, 4255H, 4270H, 4510H, 4551H, 4620H, 4630H, 4750H, 4850H, GESO 3122H/4122H, POST 3092H
Or with prior approval of the department, reading courses (SOCI 3900Y, 3901H, 3902H, 4900Y, 4901H, 4902H), community-based research courses (SOCI 3570Y, 3580H, 4570Y, 4580H), research practica (SOCI 4021Y, 4022H, 4023H), SOCI 4430H, or thesis courses (SOCI 4010Y or 4020D) that are primarily focused on social justice and equity in content
