Bachelor of Science Program in Software Engineering – Co-op
This program is offered as a co-op program only and therefore students are required to achieve the co-op requirements. Graduating students must fulfill the requirements for the Honours degree in Software Engineering and successfully complete the single 12-month work term experience (COOP 2100P, 3100P, and 4100P) prior to the final academic term.
To remain in the program, students must successfully complete the required work term preparation course COOP 2000H with a minimum 70% progression requirement and achieve a minimum 75% average in completed COIS courses and a minimum 70% cumulative average throughout their study terms. In addition, students must continue to receive satisfactory evaluations during their work terms. Students who do not maintain these requirements will be required to meet with the co-op program coordinator and will be considered for continuation on a case-by-case basis. Students who do not achieve a minimum 70% in COOP 2000H will be withdrawn from the co-op program but may continue their studies in Software Engineering or transfer to a major in a different subject. Once withdrawn, students are not eligible to re-enter the co-op program.
Students on their 12-month work term must complete learning objectives, a midterm evaluation, a final evaluation, and a final work term report during each 4-month term. Co-op employers will also complete evaluations of the student’s work term. Upon receiving the completed documentation and upon a satisfactory employer assessment, a grade of Pass (P) or Fail (F) will be assigned for COOP 2100P, 3100P, and 4100P.
Students who are unable to complete the required 12-month co-op work term may apply for approval to continue in the Software Engineering program. Approval will be required, and students must meet all requirements of the program, and in addition must complete COIS 4000Y to be eligible to graduate with an Honours BSc in Software Engineering.
